--posted 4/13/05 - 12:45 pm -- Is Ford Field the future of Michigan Supercross?
That was one of the subjects being talked about around the pits
and hallowed halls of the Pontiac Silverdome as it is tentatively
scheduled for demolition sometime early next year, many great
moments in Supercross have happened at the Silverdome...Jeremy
McGrath falling and breaking his bars in 98, Ricky Carmichael's
blaze from last all the way back to 2nd place with a broken
visor in 2002, the classic battles over the years from all the
greats, double headers, the track going up into the stands...all
took place in Pontiac and that is in jeopardy of ending. Here's
to a nice long run at the Silverdome, lets hope they move just
down the road to Ford Field and Michigan maintaining a place
in the SX community for years to come.
Kevin Windham was on fire this past weekend in Pontiac, he beat
Chad Reed pretty handily in their heat race and checked out
for almost 16 laps in the main event, it was a thing of beauty
watching Kevin lead a race for as long as he did with guys like
Reed, RC, and Bubba battling behind him, Kdub has been off the
radar since bubba got healthy again and was glad to be back
on the podium, its been said before and I'll say it again...When
Kevin is on, there isnt a racer in the world that can catch
him, had he not made a bobble in the whoops that fact would
have played out in his favor. Kdub was happy with 3rd and if
he didnt have a family and a life away from motocross ( who
can blame him? ) I'll bet we would see alot more of him on that
podium, period!

Chad Reed has won 3 of his last 4 and aside from Bubba wining
last weekend in Dallas, Chad has been the smartest and most
patient rider on the track, his lack of mistakes coupled with
very very fast lap times have been what he has wanted to get
on the top rung and he is doing his job well, barring a DNF
from Ricky in the next few rounds his paltry finish at Anaheim1
is going to keep him from a 2nd title though. Ya gotta hand
it to the Aussie though, he is ending the season with an exclamation
point and lately RC has had little to say about it!

RC was just too fast for the slick Pontiac track...lots of bobbles
from lack of traction kept RC from moving far enough forward
to pass or even challenge Chad Reed in the main, the same thing
can be said for his heat race loss to Bubba Stewart. whats going
on with Ricky? There has been lots of speculation that he is
taking it easy, even though his press conference statements
have him admitting to not taking it easy. he wants the championship
- absolutely, but Ricky is a champion and he wants to win every
race he lines up to the gate for, I don't think we have seen
the last of RC on top of the SX podium this year...but we haven't
seen Chad Reed just bowing down to let him either, or Bubba,
or Kdub...we have all been wanting a season worth bench racing
about and now that those four are heating up our TV's with awesome
battles every race...were finally getting it, enjoy it folks,
this kind of thing doesn't happen very often. Can you just imagine
what were gonna get in the outdoor series? WOW!

JBS ... he is hot, he is cold, he is hot again...Can anyone
say " Rookie 250 season " Well...I don't remember
a time when we have had a rookie that was so much fun to watch
( anyone remember a guy named McGrath? ) James is RC - Reed
and Windham all rolled into one package...and right now, rough
around the edges, when he matures and settles down we might
be bored, really bored...enjoy his crashes ( without injury
) while they last because when he keeps it on two wheels for
20 laps he is gone with a capital G, Bubba got 4th and he wasnt
as fast as the other 3 in front of him ( he had a front brake
this race too ) maybe they should just take off his front brake
lever to slow him down enough to win some races, now there's
an idea??

Grant Langston, is champion yet again ( his 3rd different title
) what is it with this guy and taking it down to the wire? He
actually tied Josh Hansen ( who won the main - Grant got 4th
) on points but because Grant won 3 main events and Josh only
two, the title went to Grant, this time he was able to celebrate
his title with all his team and family there to enjoy it with
him, last year he unceremoniously got the phone call telling
him that he was champion after the Troy, Ohio race got cancelled
due to rain for a second time. I personally took a KTM number
one plate from the Racer-X headquarters to Rod Bush at the KTM
headquarters in Ohio last year to get a photo and it certainly
isn't the way to celebrate something so special, I'm happy for
Grant and the rest of his team to be able to finally do it the
way it was intended. And for us fans it couldnt have been any
closer or better...Wow...what a season it has been!

Josh Hansen and Joaquim Rodrigues battled early only to have
Josh make the pass stick within a few laps and proceed on to
the check out lane, this is Joaquim's first ever SX podium and
he was happy to join in on the press conference alongside the
comical Millsaps and his counterpart Hansen. Josh was heartbroken
to lose the title by so little but his attention is now firmly
focused on the outdoors and maybe some redemtion in Vegas, this
weekend Josh was clearly the fastest rider but with a bad start
( again ) Davi Millsaps made a charge taking him from way back,
all the way to 2nd place...had those two started together, Josh
might have lost the title by more than just a single race win.

Davi Millsaps is one of those guys the press conferences have
come to really enjoy, forget his racing for a second, we all
know he is fast. It used to be that the press conference was
filled to capacity but after the top 3 in the world were done
talking, the 125 guys felt like the ebola virus had just entered
the room, it cleared out! Now that Davi has been in there quite
a few times this year bringing his humor and genuine personality,
he has single handedly bumped up those numbers with his classic
taking over of the mic and asking the press (WerdNerd &
TFS) questions. Its hilarious to watch so tune in the next time
that kid makes a podium, its worth a listen...hell, tune in
anyway, there is always something interesting being asked or
said!

Coming to you from Tim Ritchies basement at Redbud
MX in Buchanan, Michigan ( Thanks for putting us up
Tim )
We are warming up for day two of round 2 of the Super Series
(Dutch Sport Park, Log Road MX and Redbud MXplay host to the
Super Series) It was a cold season opener for the legendary
Redbud facility as high winds and 40-50 degree temps kept turnout
somewhat low, brighter days are looking up though as tomorrow
the weather is supposed to be in the 60's and the winds will
be subsiding.
So come on out and say hi to TOES ( Danya ) and me, we will
be shooting all day again tomorrow, plus we have the HUGE Grant
Langston image we posted a few weeks back on mototalk on display,
its no less than 36 inches by 58 inches in size. Thanks to Brian
from dmxsradio.com
for printing that baby out and sending it to us...The response
from people has been " how much and where can I get one?
" Looks like we will be offering prints in larger sizes
this summer!
That's it for now, here are a few images from todays action.
Come on out and enjoy some of the best weather ( hopefully )
Michigan has had since winter and some good racing on one of
the worlds best tracks...see ya in the pits!
:)
